![]() ![]() As a result there is a blend of twitch-based reflexes with high-level strategy and tactics gameplay. “Fast-paced combat that ruthlessly portrays the intensity of medieval combat.”Ĭhivalry brings a ton of unique and exciting experiences to the player, whether it’s the precision and responsiveness of the melee combat, the huge variety of effective playstyles and weapons, or the ability to besiege castles, raid villages and assassinate enemy royalty in an online setting.Ĭhivalry’s combat system was designed from an interesting mix of First-person Shooter, RPG and Fighting genre game mechanics. The game gives a true sense of competitiveness.) (This is important because when you die, you die at your opponents feet. This allows the player to perform expert level manuevures, like ducking under or jumping over his opponents strike, but only if the player himself is good enough. Not like assassins creed where you press one button to do a triple backflip and kill 5 guys, in Chivalry you individually select each action that your character performs and always retain full control. We wanted the player to be in control and have the ability to adjust his attack in real time with the mouse. We didn’t want to be locked in to a canned animation, see damage numbers above enemies heads or have quicktime sequences. We were also disappointed with melee in other games. We seek to bring the chaos, intensity and epicness that those movies deliver to the hands of a gamer. ![]() To accomplish this we drew on our inspiration from epic swordfighting movies such as 300, Gladiator and Braveheart. We wanted to capture the experience of truly being on a medieval battlefield. “To create the best melee combat game ever.” ![]() Set in a fictional yet gritty and realistic world, players will fight in fast paced online battles besieging castles, raiding medieval villages and fighting for glory in the arena with up to 32 players. The game is skill-based and controls like a FPS, but instead of guns and grenades, players are given swords, shields, maces, battleaxes and longbows. “You have a sword and you want to hurt some people.”Īnd it works on that level but there is so much depth to the combat that you can become a master swordsman over time. (Can't let people have too much fun if that fun happens to interfere with online leaderboards and data collection, after all.) That's a shame, but here's hoping that indie games can keep the dream alive I know that I certainly want to track down this Chivalry server now.The game is slated for release on the 16th of October, 2012. Server-side mods seem to be a fading phenomenon, though, largely because many games now are either relying on peer-to-peer multiplayer or are keeping control of dedicated servers and simply renting them out to the community. You never knew quite what you were getting into when you hopped onto a modified server, but they had the advantage of offering wacky gameplay experiences without the need to download files outside the game. Heck, Unreal Tournament's mutators were basically a fancy set of server modifications along these lines. The joys of PC gaming, huh? In the good old days, server-side modifications would lead to some crazy experiences, with servers that featured almost zero gravity, restrict you to a single weapon, make every attack an instant kill, or offer up any number of other modifications to a game's core gameplay. What's more, the game's AI apparently interprets their sudden freedom from the fetters of gravity as a cause of impending death, meaning that.well, you just have to watch this. One can only wonder what its makers will make of the server shown off in the video below, though, which has tweaked the game's gravity setting so that even knights in hundred-pound suits of armor are capable of flying hundreds of feet into the sky. ![]() I haven't played much Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, but I've enjoyed what little of it I've experienced, and its online reputation seems to be solidly positive. ![]()
